First finish of 2016 is a cathedral window table topper - well, the "easy" method of making cathedral Windows. Easy is in quotation marks because it is not easy! Granted better than hand sewing which is the only way to make the original cathedral window blocks. But way too complicated to make anything bigger than a table topper!
This project all started when I was on a cruise with my neighbors. In Halifax we saw an original cathedral window quilt and Helen said she really liked it and I could put it on my to do list for her. I told her it was all hand sewn and was not happening in this lifetime but that I had seen that there was a machine sewn version and I would look into it.
So I started making the blocks with 2 1/2" squares and found out how much work the "easy" method was. No way it was going to be a quilt! I really love how the 20" x 20" inch table topper came out - it is beautiful! Gave it to Helen last night - she seemed to like it even though she is more of a muted color person! Oh well, can't have everything and cathedral Windows should be bright though I love how the gray made the colors stand out!
